ARE YOU LIVING IN A “FISHBOWL?”
by Carol Janssen, Life Coach
As the child of a pastor, I spent my childhood and much of my early adulthood living under the scrutiny of my peers and my parents’ peers. For most of my early years, I was unaware of what this meant. In fact, I was so arrogant as to think that what I said and did had no impact on the rest of my family, especially my parents. Wow, was I wrong! In hindsight (20x20!), I can see now that everything that I said and did in public was a reflection on my parents and my siblings.
Many of us choose to live in the public eye by virtue of a chosen vocation… clergy, politicians, teachers, etc. How do we reconcile this choice with how we live our lives? Can we feel confidence, a sense of self-worth, and self-assured whenever we are in public? Does this “fit” with how we live behind closed doors?
Yes, we can live our lives based on our core values, both in public and in private. By identifying our core values and keeping them in focus, we can successfully create an easygoing life in the public eye, and a peaceful life behind closed doors.
As your life coach, I will guide you through the process of identifying your core values. There are several fun exercises we will do together that will help reveal your values. You already know what these values are and can name several of them easily. However, sometimes we have hidden or “invisible” values that are so fundamental to our daily existence, we find it impossible to name them without assistance.
Your “fishbowl” existence will become much easier! By hiring me as your life coach, I guarantee that your life will be enhanced by identifying your core values. You will never make another major decision in your life again without referring to your core values.
